HC Deb 14 July 1898 vol 61 c951
MR. E. ROBERTSON (Dundee)

I beg to ask the First Lord of the Admiralty whether the attention of the Admiralty has been called to the advisability of substituting steel or aluminium for wood in the internal fittings of Her Majesty's ships; and whether any steps have been or will be taken in that direction?

THE FIRST LORD OF THE ADMIRALTY (Mr. G. J. GOSCHEN,) St. George's, Hanover Square

The attention of the Admiralty has been continuously directed for a long time past to minimising the amount of wood and other inflammable material in the fittings of Her Majesty's ships. This policy will be continued.
