HC Deb 07 July 1898 vol 61 c166
CAPTAIN NORTON (Newington, W.)

I beg to ask the Secretary of State for India if he will inquire from the Government of India whether any and, if so, what proposals or recommendations have been made as to prolonging the period of Indian Medical Service officers in principal medical officers' offices to enable them to acquire a sufficient knowledge of military duties before their promotion to administrative military appointments after long years of employment in civil medical billets?

THE UNDER SECRETARY OF STATE FOR INDIA

The Government of India would forward to me any recommendations they considered necessary or likely to improve the general efficiency of the Medical Service, and I see no reason for making the inquiry suggested.
