HC Deb 07 July 1898 vol 61 c148
MR. LEWIS (Flint Boroughs)

I beg to ask the Under Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether it has come to his knowledge that the French Government have lately prohibited the natives of Madagascar from trading in certain kinds of calico with English firms; and whether any representations have been made to the French Government on the matter?

MR. CURZON

The answer to the honourable Member's Question was contained in a reply which I gave to a Question on the same subject on Tuesday. The notice issued by the French Government contained a strong recommendation of French, but not a prohibition of British goods.
