I beg to ask the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether, seeing that the Government of the Dominion of Canada has expressed its willingness to contribute or guarantee one-third of the cost of an all-British cable viâ the Pacific to the Australasian Colonies, and that the Governments of the latter have also publicly notified their readiness to contribute or guarantee a similar proportion, Her Majesty's Government will agree (to contribute or guarantee the remaining third?

THE SECRETARY OF STATE FOR THE COLONIES

No official communication has been received from the Government of the Dominion of Canada or from the Governments of the Australasian Colonies of their willingness to contribute or guarantee two-thirds of the cost of an all-British Pacific cable. Should such communications be received, they will receive due consideration from Her Majesty's Government.
