HC Deb 29 April 1898 vol 56 c1536
MR. T. SKEWES-COX (Surrey, Kingston)

I beg to ask the President of the Board of Agriculture whether he is now in a position to withdraw the Dog Muzzling Order, so far as it affects the administrative county of Surrey?

THE PRESIDENT OF THE BOARD OF AGRICULTURE (Mr. W. H. LONG,) Liverpool, West Derby

I am afraid that the time has not yet come for the withdrawal of the Muzzling Order now in force in Surrey. Four cases of rabies have occurred there during the past six months, and in view of the proximity of the county to the metropolis, and of the fact that the disease has been more or less prevalent within its area for several years past, the relaxation of the Order at the present time would probably endanger the success of our operations, and render the re-imposition of the muzzle necessary at no distant date.
