HC Deb 24 May 1897 vol 49 c1142
MR. W. FIELD (Dublin, St. Patrick)

I beg to ask the Secretary to the Treasury whether the £74,000 accruing to Ireland under the Agricultural Rating Act is bearing interest; if so, how much, and for what purpose will it be used?

MR. HANBURY

The £74,000 was paid into the Irish Local Taxation Account at the Bank of Ireland at the end of the last financial year. No interest is ordinarily paid on moneys paid into the Local Taxation Accounts of any of the three kingdoms, and Parliament made no special provision for the £74,000 in the Act of last Session. If the Irish Government are advised that they have power to make some special arrangement with respect to the temporary employment of these moneys, the Treasury will be willing to consider any proposal submitted to them.
