CARVELL WILLIAMSI beg to ask the Vice President of the Committee of Council on Education how much of the sum of £16,522,393 stated in the Education Report for 1895–96 to have been borrowed by School Boards from the Public Works Loan Commissioners had been repaid, such information having been given in previous Reports; and whether the Department will give similar information in the Report for 1896–97?
§ SIR J. GORSTThe amount actually borrowed from the Public Works Loan Commissioners was £17,940,913, of which £6,167,567 has been repaid. The information was omitted because misleading, a large portion of the repayments being met by re-borrowing.
