§ MR. EDWARD BARRY (Cork Co., S.)I beg to ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland whether his attention has been drawn to the 917 case of a pauper named Jeremiah Donovan, who having been a paralytic inmate of the Macroom Workhouse for eight years, was recently transferred to Clonakilty by car and rail in a most feeble and destitute condition at the expense of the Macroom Guardians; whether he is aware that the Macroom Guardians provided him with a new suit of clothes, a car to Bandon, and money for the journey, and that a relieving officer of the Clonakilty Union found it necessary to take him to hospital on his arrival at Clonakilty; and whether such transference by and at the expense of the Macroom Guardians is legal; and if not what steps will be taken to relieve the Clonakilty Union of the expense incurred in the maintenance of this pauper pending his removal to Macroom workhouse?
§ MR. GERALD BALFOURMy attention had not been previously directed to the circumstances attending the removal of Donovan from the Macroom workhouse. "With the view of ascertaining the actual facts of the case, the Local Government Board's Inspector for the district has been instructed to hold an Inquiry, and the result of his investigation will be communicated to me in due course.
