HC Deb 14 May 1897 vol 49 c498
Mr. M. J. FLAVIN (Kerry, N.)

I beg to ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland whether he will explain on what grounds 21 prisoners were transferred from Cork City Prison to Tralee Prison in December 1896; and, what is the cost to the Kerry ratepayers by the transfer of the prisoners and the escort of constabulary that accompanied them?

MR. GERALD BALFOUR

There was nothing unusual in the movement, of prisoners referred to; such transfers are effected from time to time when it is considered desirable to equalise prison populations. The expenses of transfer in all such cases, including cost of constabulary escort, are borne by the Prisons Vote.
