I beg to ask the Lord Advocate if he will state what sum out of the surplus of herring brand fees has been devoted, for the years 1894, 1895, and 1896 respectively, for payments under guarantee to the Post Office for the extension of telegraphic communication to certain districts interested in the herring fisheries?

The amount of surplus herring brand fees devoted to the payment of telegraph guarantees in 1894, 1895, and 1896 respectively was: £925 7s. 3d., £966 0s. 11d., and £290 17s. 1d.
