HC Deb 30 March 1897 vol 48 cc116-7
MR. R. T. HERMON-HODGE (Oxon, Henley)

I beg to ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he will consider the advisability of issuing a Jubilee shilling which shall serve the purpose of a commemorative medal and at the same time pass as current coin; or, if not, whether he will cause the proposed Jubilee medals to be issued in two sizes?

THE CHANCELLOR OF THE EXCHEQUER (Sir MICHAEL HICKS BEACH, Bristol, W.)

It has been decided to issue in reduced size copies of the medal to be struck in commemoration of the completion of the 60th year of the Queen's reign. Due notice will be given in the newspapers of the price at which they will be obtainable, which will be fixed as near cost price as possible, together with full information as to the steps to be taken in order to procure them. There will be no issue before the month of June.
