HC Deb 15 July 1897 vol 51 cc149-50
CAPTAIN NORTON (Newington, W.)

beg to ask the Financial Secretary to the War Office whether he can state approximately the date at which the Report of the Committee on Decentralisation of Army Clothing Stores will be presented; whether that Committee will inquire into and report upon the clerical staff and internal organisation of the Directors' Office, Army Clothing Department; and, whether the second division clerks in that Department will be afforded an opportunity of submitting representations as to their position, prospects, and duties for the consideration of the said Committee?

THE FINANCIAL SECRETARY To THE WAR OFFICE (Mr. POWELL- WILLIAMS, Birmingham, S.)

The Inquiry into the decentralisation of army clothing will necessarily take a considerable time; and I am unable to say when the Committee will be able to report; nor can I give any pledge that the Report will be presented to Parliament. The organisation of the office of the Director of Clothing will form part of the Inquiry. The second division clerks have already submitted representations as to their position and their representations have been referred to the Committee.
