HC Deb 04 February 1897 vol 45 c1310
MR. S. YOUNG (Cavan, E.),

I beg to ask the Attorney General whether his attention has been called to a recent case in which the chairman of a bench of magistrates called on a firm of wine and spirit merchants and ordered them to remove at once certain wine, spirit, and beer advertisements which are affixed to the walls of the premises Pacing the public roads; and, whether licensing magistrates have power to order the removal of such advertisements from licensed premises?

THE ATTORNEY GENERAL (Sir RICHARD WEBSTER,) Isle of Wight

Except by the Question of the hon. Member, my attention has not been ailed to the case to which he refers. Without fuller knowledge of the facts, I cannot express an opinion upon the merits of the case, but I am not aware of any general power possessed by the Magistrates to order the removal of such advertisements.
