§ SIR WILFRID LAWSON (Cumberland, Cockermouth)I beg to ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department, whether his attention has been called to the fact that on 12th May a man, charged at the West London Police Court with being found drunk, was discharged on taking the pledge, without further punishment; and, if so, whether this form of procedure is to be adopted in other police courts?
§ SIR MATTHEW WHITE RIDLEYMy attention had not previously been called to the case. The matter is one in the discretion of the magistrates, as to which I have no power of interference.
