COURTENAY WARNER (Stafford, Lichfield)I beg to ask the Under Secretary of State for War, if the War Office have considered the waste caused by not using the Wittington Barracks, Lichfield, for the training of the Staffordshire Militia Regiments; and if they are taking any steps to acquire ranges on Cannock Chase, so as to remove the difficulty as to ranges being too far off?
§ * MR. BRODRICKThe barracks referred to are not available for the Militia, being occupied fully by a line battalion. The North Staffordshire Militia trains this year at Leominster, where there is a Lee-Metford rifle range; the South Staffordshire Militia battalions go to Aldershot. I am not in a position at present to make any statement as to a range on Cannock Chase.
