I beg to ask the Secretary to the Treasury, as representing the Postmaster General, if he can state what percentage of the receipts of telephone companies is payable to the State; and, what amount was actually received by the Post Office from the telephone companies during each of the past five financial years?

The royalty is 10 per cent., and the amounts received during the past five financial years were:—1890–1, £44,007; 1891–2, £50,403; 1892–3, £57,620; 1893–4, £65,443; 1894–5, £72,693.
