HC Deb 20 March 1896 vol 38 c1471
MR. RADCLIFFE COOKE (Hereford)

I beg to ask the Under Secretary of State for War whether, owing to the prevalence of small-pox in Gloucester, the recruits of the 4th battalion of the Gloucestershire Militia have not been called up there for preliminary training, as in the ordinary course they would have been on Monday last; and, whether any provision has been made or will be made for their undergoing such training elsewhere?

MR. POWELL-WILLIAMS

In consequence of the prevalence of small-pox in the district, the preliminary drill of the recruits of the 4th battalion of the Gloucestershire regiment has been suspended. The question of carrying out this drill at a later date is under consideration.
