HC Deb 17 March 1896 vol 38 c1150
MR. ERNEST GRAY (West Ham, N.)

I beg to ask the Secretary to the Treasury whether he is aware that the same sick-leave regulations now apply to all the established clerks and officers (over 4,000 men) in the Customs Department, with the exception of the small class of clerks called abstractors, numbering about 80 men; and, can he state the reason why these 80 men are kept in a different position as regards sick-leave to the remaining men in the Department?

* THE SECRETARY TO THE TREASURY (Mr. R, W. HANBURY,) Preston

I have already stated, in reply to a similar Question put on the 5th instant, that the Treasury is making inquiry into the sick-leave of abstractors. That inquiry is not yet completed.
