HC Deb 05 March 1896 vol 38 cc191-2
MR. McCARTAN (Down, S.)

I beg to ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland, whether he will inquire if tenders are invited by advertisements in the local papers, in respect of all contracts for county asylums in Ireland; and, if not, whether, in the interests of economy, he will communicate with the Board of Asylums in Ireland, directing tenders to be so invited for all such contracts, with a view to competition, and that all such tenders be submitted to the Governors of each Asylum?

MR. GERALD BALFOUR

Tenders are invited by advertisements published in the local newspapers, in respect of all contracts taken by Boards of Governors of County Asylums in Ireland, in accordance with a Privy Council Rule, and all such tenders are submitted to the Governors of each Asylum and decided by them.
