HC Deb 03 July 1896 vol 42 cc654-5
MR. BRIGGS PRIESTLEY (York, W. R., Pudsey)

I beg to ask the hon. Member for Thirsk, as a Charity Commissioner, whether the Commissioners have received a memorial from the inhabitants of the parish of Gildersome, Yorkshire, requesting that, before effecting a sale of property belonging to the Charity of Bolton Hargrave, they will institute an Inquiry into the management and future appropriation of the charity; and whether such request will be complied with?

MR. GRANT LAWSON (York, W. R., Thirsk)

The Commissioners have received a memorial signed by 25 householders. The Commissioners do not consider a local Inquiry necessary in reference to the contemplated sale, of which notices have been issued on terms approved by a Surveyor appointed by the Commission and have elicited no higher offer. Further notices will shortly issue of a Scheme dealing with the future administration of the charity, and full opportunity will be given to all persons interested to express their views in the matter.
