WALTER HAZELLI beg to ask the Secretary to the Treasury, as representing the Postmaster General, whether he will open negotiations with the Railway Companies in order to reduce the parcel post rates for all kinds of parcels, as the Department does not consider it practicable to introduce specially low rates for agricultural produce only?
§ MR. HANBURYThe remuneration payable to the Railway Companies is fixed by Statute (45 and 46 Vic. c. 74, sec. 2). No alteration can be made in the terms (before 1904) except by a general reduction of the rates charged by the Department, which the Government are unable to assent to.
