HC Deb 18 February 1896 vol 37 c566
MR. THOMAS BAYLEY (Derbyshire, Chesterfield)

I beg to ask the Secretary of State for the Colonies, if he can officially furnish the House with the number of those killed and wounded during the late raid into the Transvaal territory?

MR. J. CHAMBERLAIN

According to my latest information, 21 of Dr. Jameson's force were killed in action or died subsequently, and 46 others were admitted to hospital suffering from wounds or sickness. I have no official statement of the Burgher losses, but they are reported to have been four or five.

MR. J. G. WEIR

I beg to ask Mr. Attorney General, whether, in the event of Dr. Jameson claiming to be tried in his native country, and, according to the Laws of Scotland, for an alleged offence committed in a foreign country, the Government will grant his request?

THE ATTORNEY GENERAL (Sir RICHARD WEBSTER,) Isle of Wight

The question of the hon. Member is purely hypothetical, but I may add that I must decline to answer any questions respecting the proceedings which are now about to be commenced against Dr. Jameson. [Cheers.]
