HC Deb 13 February 1896 vol 37 cc237-8
MR. E. H. PICKERSGILL (Bethnal Green, S. W.)

I beg to ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department, whether he will inform the House, either verbally or in the form of a Return, what steps he has taken to give effect to the recommendations of the Depart mental Committee on Prisons?

SIR MATTHEW WHITE RIDLEY

It would not be possible for me, within the scope of a reply to a question to state in detail the various steps that have been taken to give effect to the recommendations of the Departmental Committee on Prisons. Many, not involving expenditure or alteration of the law, have been already carried out, and I purpose laying on the Table, of the House a report of the Commissioners of Prisons showing what has actually been done and what, further measures may in their opinion be properly carried out.
