HC Deb 13 February 1896 vol 37 cc235-6
MR. HENNIKER HEATON (Canterbury)

I beg to ask the Secretary to the Treasury, as representing the Postmaster General, whether any and what steps have been taken during the Recess for the establishment of a parcel post between this country and the United States; and whether he is aware that there is a parcel post between the United States of America and several British Colonies?

THE SECRETARY TO THE TREASURY (Mr. R. W. HANBURY,) Preston

The Government has not lost sight of the question of the establishment of a parcel post between this country and the United States; but I am not yet in a position to report to the House the steps which have been taken. The Postmaster General is aware that there is a parcel post between the United States and a few of the smaller British Colonies, and he hopes that the Government of the United States will consent to extend the system to the United Kingdom.
