HC Deb 14 August 1896 vol 44 c832
MR. PATRICK O'BRIEN

I beg to ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland whether he has received an official report of the circumstances of the action of Dr. William Jennings, J.P., of Skibbereen, in sitting on the Petty Sessions Bench, and obstructing the issue of a summons against himself for alleged assault; whether he is aware that the case has been settled by Dr. Jennings paying the legal costs of the application, and the case being dismissed without prejudice; and whether he is yet in a position to say whether any, and what, action will be taken by the Lord Chancellor?

MR. GERALD BALFOUR

I have not yet had time to look into this question, nor am I yet in a position to say what action, if any, will be taken by the Lord Chancellor.
