BIGWOOD (Middlesex, Brentford)I beg to ask the President of the Board of Trade, whether his attention has been drawn to the accident at Croydon, to a train belonging to the London and Brighton Railway Company; and, whether he has any powers which would enable him to insist upon the improvement of this Company's railway carriages, with a view to the safety and less violent shaking than is now the lot of their passengers?
§ MR. RITCHIEI am afraid I cannot do more than order an inquiry into the causes of the accident, and this has been done. The Board of Trade have no such powers as those suggested in the question.
