HC Deb 21 February 1895 vol 30 c1269
SIR F. EVANS (Southampton)

I beg to ask the Under Secretary of State for the Colonies if the Government will lay upon the Table all correspondence which has passed between the Imperial Government and the Government of Newfoundland relating to the present financial crisis in that Colony, and to the request for aid by the Government of Newfoundland?

MR. SYDNEY BUXTON

Correspondence on the subject will be laid when it is complete.

SIR F. EVANS

wished to point out that in his question he asked the hon. Gentleman for all correspondence that had taken place between the Government of this country and the Government of Newfoundland in relation to the present financial crisis in that country, and to reply that the correspondence would be laid on the Table when completed, was to say that no correspondence would be laid on the Table of the House until the present grave and dire distress had passed away. Under these circumstances he hoped the hon. Gentleman would see his way to answer the question a little more fully.

MR. SYDNEY BUXTON

said, it was not a usual practice to present incomplete correspondence, but he would see whether an exception could be made in this instance.
