MR. C. WILLIAMS (Notts, Mansfield)I beg to ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he has received a largely and influentially signed Petition to the Queen from the inhabitants of Guernsey, praying for the release of the Rev. S. Harry, who has been sentenced by a minority of the Royal Court of Guernsey to six months' imprisonment, he having inadvertently performed an illegal marriage service; and what action he proposes to take thereon?
§ MR. H. H. ASQUITHsaid, he had received a Petition on behalf of the Rev. S. Harry. He had communicated with the Lieutenant-Governor of Guernsey, and was now waiting for a Report which had been promised from the Royal Court upon the case and the Petition. He had also called for a medical report as to Mr. Harry's health.
