§ *DR. FARQUHARSON (Aberdeenshire, W.)I beg to ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether his attention has been called to a book lately issued by Drs. Waldo and Walsh on the Bakehouse Question; and, whether, in view of the facts and conclusions therein detailed, the Government will institute an official Inquiry into the matter?
§ MR. H. H. ASQUITHI have seen the book referred to. For some time past my attention has been given to this question. The law as to bakehouses is already very stringent, and in the Factory Bill which I hope to introduce I shall propose to strengthen some of its provisions. The evils of the present state of things arise, not so much from defects in the law as from its lax and unsystematic administration by the Local Sanitary Authorities. There is no need for any official Inquiry.
