HC Deb 07 February 1895 vol 30 c209
MR. GIBSON BOWLES

I beg to ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer, whether Her Majesty's Government propose to issue any Order in Council as provided by Section 20, Subsection (3), of the Finance Act, 1894; and, if so, when; and whether, in the meantime, the Commissioners of Inland Revenue have made, and will continue to make, the allowances provided for by Section 20, Sub-section (1), of the Act, in the absence of any such Order in Council?

SIR W. HARCOURT

Orders in Council are already prepared and will appear immediately, applying this Section to British India and to New Zealand. A similar course will be taken in the case of other British Colonies or Dependencies as soon as their claim to the benefit of this Section is established. The allowances provided for by the Section cannot be made in the absence of an Order in Council. Very few cases, however, have yet occurred in which Duty has become payable in respect of property which might have been affected by such an order.
