§ MR. LEWISI beg to ask the First Lord of the Treasury whether he is now in a position to inform the House whether the Select Committee on Distress caused by Want of Employment will be reappointed in the course of the present Session?
§ THE FIRST LORD OF THE TREASURYMy right hon. Friend the President of the Local Government Board has, I believe, communicated with the Chairman of the Committee which sat last Session, the right hon. Gentleman for the Stirling Burghs (Sir H. Campbell-Bannerman). He has not yet, however, received any reply. I am informed that the right hon. Gentleman is abroad, and therefore there has necessarily been some delay. I fear that if he is unable to serve it will be because some four or five Members of the Committee have been, by the fortune of war, excluded from our deliberations, and therefore there is no probability of any good result following from the reappointment of the Committee. I will consider the matter to the best of my ability. ["Hear, hear!"]
