HC Deb 30 April 1895 vol 33 cc118-9
MR. J. G. WEIR (Ross and Cromarty)

I beg to ask the President of the Board of Trade whether, seeing that the Estimates of the three General Lighthouse Authorities for this year had been under consideration for some time prior to 21st February 1895, and that the erection of a lighthouse on Flannan Islands is one out of several works which have been approved, he will state if a decision has been arrived at in respect to this undertaking.

THE PRESIDENT OF THE BOARD OF TRADE (Mr. J. BRYCE,) Aberdeen, S.

The Estimates of the three General Lighthouse Authorities for the coming year have now been sanctioned. With respect to the proposed lighthouse on Flannan Islands, the Commissioners of Northern Light houses have been informed by the Board of Trade that, although sanction to the commencement of this work in the present financial year must be deferred, the Board are willing that a survey of the site should be made in order that a reliable estimate of the expense of establishing the station may be arrived at.
