HC Deb 02 April 1895 vol 32 cc724-5
MR. J. ROCHE (Galway, E.)

I beg to ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland whether he is aware that Patrick Bourke, of Drimcurn, County Galway, filed an originating notice, under the Redemption of Rent Act, on the 19th April 1892; and that though the landlord, Joshua Seward, filed a consent to the redemption on the 29th April 1892, the order for redemption was only made on the 12th December 1893, since when the redemption has not been carried out; and whether he can state the cause of the delay?

THE SOLICITOR GENERAL FOR SCOTLAND

The facts are as stated in the question. I am informed that the delay which occurred between 19th April 1892 and 12th December 1893 was caused by the lessee failing to supply the necessary proofs as to payment of rent; and that the delay which subsequently occurred was owing to the death of the lessor and the failure of his representatives to lodge an abstract of title until last month.
