HC Deb 19 July 1894 vol 27 cc358-9
MR. FIELD (Dublin, St. Patrick's)

I beg to ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord Lieutenant for Ireland if there is any objection to appoint Professors of Irish for the Teachers' Training College in Marlborough Street, Dublin, under the direct control of the Commissioner, and if there are objections, in what these objections consist?

MR. J. MORLEY

The question of appointing a Professor to teach Irish at this Training College was referred by the Commissioners to the Professors of the Training College for their opinion; and their unanimous reply was that Irish could not possiby be introduced into the curriculum of the College except by the exclusion of some other subject of certainly more practical importance.
