I beg to ask the Secretary of State for India whether he has yet received an answer from the Government of India to his dispatch sent from the the India Office at the end of May this year, on the subject of the grievances of officers in the Staff Corps; whether he is now in a position to lay upon the Table the Papers relating to these grievances, including the Memorandum submitted to the late Commander-in-Chief and his suggestions thereon; and whether any decision, and, if so, what, has been arrived at on the subject?

No answer has been received to my Despatch regarding the promotion of officers of the Staff Corps, nor has any decision been arrived at on the subject. As I informed the hon. Member on the 31st May last, until the correspondence is complete the Papers cannot be presented to the House.
