HC Deb 12 January 1894 vol 20 cc1434-5
MR. J. LOWTHER (Kent, Thanet)

I beg to ask the Secretary to the Admiralty whether urgent representations have been made by the Local Authorities of the Counties of Essex and Kent, complaining of the deposit of mud refuse upon the fishing grounds within their jurisdiction, and whether it is intended to continue to ignore their remonstrances; whether such deposit would be an illegal act if committed by any body other than a Government Department; and whether he will lay upon the Table the Report of the Commission which sat upon the question?

THE CIVIL LORD OF THE ADMIRALTY (Mr. E. ROBERTSON,) Dundee

(who replied) said: As I have already several times stated, the present method of depositing off the Nore will cease on 31st March next, from which date other arrangements will be made for getting rid of the dredged soil. I am unable to answer the second paragraph of the right hon. Gentleman's question. I presume the third paragraph refers to the Report of the two officers appointed to inquire into the matter. I have repeatedly stated that the Report is confidential, and it is not proposed to lay it upon the Table of the House.

MR. J. LOWTHER

I shall move for the Return.
