HC Deb 12 January 1894 vol 20 c1435
MR. S. SMITH (Flintshire)

I beg, to ask the Under Secretary of State for India whether the Indian military expenditure of all classes has largely increased in recent years; and whether any Members of the Council of the Governor General have objected to the provision made for military expenditure in the Estimates for the current year; and, if so, whether the Secretary of State for India will lay these dissents upon the Table of the House?

* THE UNDER SECRETARY OF STATE FOE INDIA (Mr. GEORGE RUSSELL,) North Beds.

Yes, speaking generally; the principal causes have been explained in the several Indian Financial Statements and Explanatory Memorandums laid before Parliament. Minutes were recorded by Members of the Government of India both for and against the provision for military expenditure in the Budget for the current year; but they are of a confidential nature.
