HC Deb 01 January 1894 vol 20 c549
MR. LABOUCHERE

I beg to ask the First Commissioner of Works whether Clarence House is maintained at the cost of H.R.H. the Duke of Edinburgh or of the taxpayers; and, if the latter, what is the annual cost of its maintenance and of all charges in connection therewith?

THE FIRST COMMISSIONER OF WORKS (Mr. SHAW LEFEVRE,) Bradford, Central

The general repairs of Clarence House (exclusive of decorative work) have always been undertaken by the Government, as mentioned in the Estimates. The average expense is about £300 a year.

MR. WEIR

Does that sum include rates and taxes?

MR. SHAW LEFEVRE

No, Sir.
