HC Deb 26 February 1894 vol 21 cc1025-6
MR. T. BAYLEY (Derbyshire, Chesterfield)

I beg to ask the Secretary of State for War whether the troops acting under the orders of the High Commissioner in South Africa, in the war now going on in Matabeleland, are under the Mutiny Act?

THE UNDER SECRETARY OF STATE FOR THE COLONIES (Mr. S. BUXTON,) Tower Hamlets, Poplar

The forces acting under the orders of the High Commissioner in South Africa are subject to the disciplinary provisions of the Cape Mounted Riflemen Act, 1878. I may add that the forces of the British South Africa Company were also under Ordinance 1, of 1891, subject to the same Act.
