HC Deb 03 August 1894 vol 28 c30
MR. HARRY SMITH&c.) (Falkirk,

I beg to ask the Secretary of State for War whether, in view of the trade depression in Lanarkshire, and the difficulty of finding employment there in consequence of the present strike, he can extend the period for training of the 3rd and 4th Battalions of Highland Light Infantry Militia now stationed at Lanark?

MR. CAMPBELL-BANNERMAN

Money is voted only for the ordinary training of Militia for the normal period of four weeks, and there are no funds to provide for any additional training of a particular battalion owing to some local circumstances unconnected with its military efficiency. I am afraid, therefore, that the suggestion of my hon. Friend cannot be adopted.
