HC Deb 02 April 1894 vol 22 c1098
SIR E. ASHMEAD-BARTLETT (Sheffield, Ecclesall)

I beg to ask the Under Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether it is a fact, as stated by Mr. Holt Hallett, that Her Majesty's Government are about to cede to China the Burmese district of Kiang Hung, through which the British railway to Yunnan and the South-Western Provinces of China must pass?

* SIR E. GREY

The cession of the rights of Burma in Kiang Hung, which we found under Chinese administration, is one of those questions dealt with in the Convention relating to the Burmese frontier recently signed with China. As that Convention has not yet been ratified it would not be in the interests of the Public Service to make any declaration with regard to it at the present moment.
