HC Deb 21 September 1893 vol 17 cc1791-2
MR. MAGUIRE (Clare, W.)

I beg to ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland whether he is aware that the Kildysart Board of Guardians unanimously adopted a resolution six months ago in favour of a new labourers' scheme in their Union, all the formalities of which have been complied with; if he is aware that the Local Government Board, though requested, have not summoned the local sworn inquiry required by the Act; and whether he will call upon them to do so?

MR. J. MORLEY

I am informed that the Board of Guardians of this Union, at their meeting on the 5th January last, made improvement schemes under the Labourers' Acts for the erection of 12 cottages, but that the schemes have not since been submitted to the Local Government Board for confirmation. On the 17th August the Guardians passed a resolution requesting the Board to expedite the holding of the local inquiry into the schemes, and it was pointed out to the Guardians by the Local Government Board that the schemes had not yet been submitted to that Department.
