HC Deb 07 September 1893 vol 17 cc461-2
MR. A. C. MORTON

I beg to ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether the Government intend to do away with the Royal Buckhounds?

THE CHANCELLOR OF THE EXCHEQUER (Sir W. HARCOURT,) Derby

My hon. Friend has asked me a very difficult question indeed; but, of course, I do not know whether he is aware of the difficulties of it. The Government have had the matter in view; but they found so many difficulties surrounding it that they have not been able to arrive at a conclusion with regard to it. I hope that on more mature deliberation I shall be able to give my hon. Friend a more satisfactory answer.

MR. A. C. MORTON

In the Autumn Session?

SIR W. HARCOURT

I am afraid that this can scarcely be regarded as a "non-controversial subject."

MR. DARLING (Deptford)

I beg to ask the right hon. Gentleman whether the Government will in this case adopt the process which has been followed with regard to the Welsh Suspensory Bill?

SIR W. HARCOURT

That is a matter that will require consideration.

MR. GIBSON BOWLES

May I ask the right hon. Gentleman whether, instead of doing away with the Royal Buckhounds by a suspensory process, the right hon. Gentleman will consider the propriety of poisoning them?

SIR W. HARCOURT

No.
