HC Deb 02 June 1893 vol 13 c41
MR. CROMBIE (Kincardineshire)

I beg to ask the Secretary for Scotland whether the minimum grant of 17s. 6d. laid down in Article 32a of the Scotch Education Code (1893) is lower than that earned by many elementary schools; and, if so, would he consider whether the limitation might, in view of the increased cost of elementary education, be raised to 20s. or 21s.?

SIR G. TREVELYAN

The provision, with regard to the minimum grant of 17s. 6d. is inserted in the Code, pursuant to the Elementary Education Act, 1876, and the Department has no power to depart from this statutory provision by an alteration in the Code.
