HC Deb 17 July 1893 vol 14 c1685
MR. STUART-WORTLEY (Sheffield, Hallam)

I beg to ask the Under Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether it is intended to convene next year the Conference of the International Union for the Protection of Industrial Property and Trade Marks, and the repression of false trade descriptions, which met last at Madrid in 1890?

THE UNDER SECRETARY OF STATE FOR FOREIGN AFFAIRS (Sir E. GREY, Northumberland, Berwick)

At the Madrid Conference in 1890 it was decided that the next meeting of the Union should take place at Brussels. It will devolve upon the Belgian Government, in concert with the Central Office of the Union at Berne, to take the necessary steps to send out invitations to the Conference, when they are ready for the meeting to take place, but no such invitation has yet been received by Her Majesty's Government.

MR. STUART-WORTLEY

Will the initiative be left entirely to the Belgian Government?

SIR E. GREY

Yes; I understand that that is the intention.
