HC Deb 04 July 1893 vol 14 cc799-800
MR. WOODS (Lancashire, S.W., Ince)

I beg to ask the President of the Board of Trade if his attention has been called to the railway accident that occurred on Saturday, 1st July, 1893, at Poulton, near Blackpool, on the London and North Western Railway, whereby three persons lost their lives, and a large number of others were injured; whether he is aware that the accident happened at a point where there is a sharp curve on the line, which the Railway Company have been urged for more than 12 months past, in the interest of safety, to alter, but have not done so; and whether, in the interest of the travelling public and the unfortunate relatives of the sufferers in this accident, he will cause a searching inquiry into the circumstances surrounding this terrible disaster?

MR. MUNDELLA

An inquiry has already been ordered into the accident, and the Inspector will no doubt report whether the curve referred to was in any way contributory thereto.
