HC Deb 04 July 1893 vol 14 c809
MR. MACDONALD (Tower Hamlets, Bow)

I beg to ask the President of the Local Government Board whether he proposes to institute an inquiry into the circumstances attending the recent poisoning of 132 children in the Forest Gate District Schools?

MR. GROVE (West Ham, N)

At the same time, may I ask the right hon. Gentleman whether his attention has been called to the poisoning of 132 children at a school in Forest Gate, by the use of a chemical preparation used to preserve meat in hot weather; and, if so, whether he will give instructions that no such preparations, whereby the lives and health of the children of the poor are endangered, be used in future?

MR. H. H. FOWLER

; The Inspector of the Local Government Board visited the school immediately we became aware of what had occurred, for the purpose of ascertaining the facts. Two of the children, I regret to say, have died; an inquest is being held, and I must ask to be allowed to defer any statement until the investigation by the Coroner is completed.
