HC Deb 23 February 1893 vol 9 c177
MR. HAVELOCK WILSON

I beg to ask the President of the Board of Trade if his attention has been called to the disaster which recently occurred to the Allan Line steamer Pomeranian, in which several of the crew were injured and the vessel compelled to put back, and, if it is his intention (seeing a number of lives were lost) to cause an inquiry to be held with reference to the same, with a view to ascertaining whether the vessel was in a seaworthy condition when she last left the United Kingdom?

MR. MUNDELLA

Inquiry was ordered at once, and will be held on the return of the vessel to the United Kingdom. The question as to the vessel's condition will doubtless be considered at the Inquiry.

MR. HAVELOCK WILSON

Is not the vessel at the present moment lying off Greenock undergoing repairs?

MR. MUNDELLA

I am not aware that it is. I will inquire.
