HC Deb 20 February 1893 vol 8 cc1874-5
SIR M. HICKS BEACH (Bristol, W.)

I wish to ask the right hon. Gentleman the First Lord of the Treasury, with regard to Public Business, whether the House is to understand that the Motion for the Second Reading of the Home Rule Bill is definitely fixed for Monday, March 13, or whether that day has merely been put down with a view to a later day being fixed? I think the right hon. Gentleman will agree that as long notice should be given as possible.

THE FIRST LORD OF THE TREASURY (Mr. W. E. GLADSTONE,) Edinburgh, Midlothian

The Bill is definitely fixed for that day. I hope the notice given will be ample.

MR. HUNTER) (Aderdeen, N.

May I ask the First Lord of the Treasury a question arising out of his answer that it is proposed to take the Second Reading of the Home Rule Bill on the 13th March. On the following day there is a Motion in which a large number of hon. Members are interested with regard to railway rates. It is the first Order for that day. If the right hon. Gentleman intends to take the whole time of the House will he give us, at all events, an assurance that he will not take Tuesday, March 14?

MR. W. E. GLADSTONE

I was not aware of the arrangements for the Tuesday to which the hon. Member refers; but I am afraid I could not undertake to give any pledge on the subject such as that which the hon. Member asks for.
