HC Deb 17 February 1893 vol 8 c1696
MR. WEIR (Ross and Cromarty)

I beg to ask the Secretary for Scotland whether Sheriff Johnston, a member of the Board of Supervision, ascertained during his recent visit to Balallan, Island of Lewis, that for a lengthened period the only water available for the children attending school in that village had to be fetched by them from a well into which two ditches drained; and whether the school now has a proper supply of water?

THE SECRETARY FOR SCOTLAND (Sir G. TREVELYAN,) Glasgow, Bridgeton

As I informed the hon. Member, Sheriff Johnston confined his remarks on the water supply of the Lewis to saying it needed to be improved in quantity and quality as much as possible. He made no allusion to the supply of Balallan.
